Packing Line Supervisor, Broetje Orchards
Israel Alvarez Salgado
“I came to the United States when I was 12 years old. After graduating high school, I started working with Broetje Orchards on the repack crew. I moved up quickly from the night shift to palletizing boxes in the segregating room. Over the past five years I have been given many opportunities to learn other areas of this business. I’m the kind of person who isn’t afraid of taking on new tasks or opportunities. All of these different responsibilities and job titles have pushed me to grow. I like working hard to move our crops and get them to people who need and enjoy eating our product.”
“As a young child, my grandmother had a garden in our backyard and while she was cooking, she would ask me to go pick jalapenos, tomatoes, and squash. That garden made a big impression on me and my life. I believe that is where my passion for food and fellowship developed. On Sundays our family would gather at my grandparents’ home to eat and laugh. I believe that no matter what happens in life there is no better feeling than gathering around the dinner table with your family and friends.”
