Growing Relations Manager, Taylor Farms California
Gina Basaldua
“Growing up in Gonzales, California, the heart of the Salinas Valley Salad Bowl, my passion for agriculture started at an early age working alongside my father and grandfather. I spent most of my free time by my father’s side, learning to grow and harvest zucchini and cherry tomatoes on our family farm. I was fascinated by it all. At a very young age, I learned the value of sustainability by working the soil to produce a healthy crop to help feed the world. This passion led me to get a degree from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in Crop Science, minoring in both Plant Protection Science and Ag Business. Since starting my career at Taylor Farms 12 years ago as a harvest coordinator, I have helped with the management of our baby leaf program. I eventually transitioned into a Grower Relations Manager role, where I work closely with our growers to help meet and maintain our customer’s needs. Whether we are adding new varieties at a field level or improving automation, the industry is very exciting because it’s constantly evolving. I am proud and blessed to work with a team that produces safe, quality salads.”
“As a young child, my grandmother had a garden in our backyard and while she was cooking, she would ask me to go pick jalapenos, tomatoes, and squash. That garden made a big impression on me and my life. I believe that is where my passion for food and fellowship developed. On Sundays our family would gather at my grandparents’ home to eat and laugh. I believe that no matter what happens in life there is no better feeling than gathering around the dinner table with your family and friends.”
