When I was a boy, I remember the strong emotions I felt running through the streets of my village. In summer we went to the river to play and swim with friends, then meet up later on the main street to play soccer, passing the hours hoping for the victory of our team, and finally going home to read books and do my homework. On the weekend, my family drove out to the country and walked through acres of fruit trees. My favorite was the mango—juicy and sweet. We filled our buckets and took them home to cut up and eat. Those were unforgettable days!
“As a young child, my grandmother had a garden in our backyard and while she was cooking, she would ask me to go pick jalapenos, tomatoes, and squash. That garden made a big impression on me and my life. I believe that is where my passion for food and fellowship developed. On Sundays our family would gather at my grandparents’ home to eat and laugh. I believe that no matter what happens in life there is no better feeling than gathering around the dinner table with your family and friends.”
