“I came from a town in Mexico where work opportunities for women are limited, so my husband and I made the decision to come to the United States. My first job was harvesting strawberries and even though it was hard work, I liked it because I knew it would help my family move forward. Helping my family has always been my biggest motivation.
Later I got more involved in the agriculture industry, harvesting lettuce, which led me to my current job in the Food Safety and Hygiene Department at True Leaf Farms. I’ve been working here for 10 years now! In my position I make sure my co-workers, new employees, and visiting customers are outfitted properly with the correct safety gear.
Since I came to this country, I have overcome so many challenges and achieved the goals I set to help my family. I hope that my experience will motivate others and encourage them to work hard and not give up.”
“As a young child, my grandmother had a garden in our backyard and while she was cooking, she would ask me to go pick jalapenos, tomatoes, and squash. That garden made a big impression on me and my life. I believe that is where my passion for food and fellowship developed. On Sundays our family would gather at my grandparents’ home to eat and laugh. I believe that no matter what happens in life there is no better feeling than gathering around the dinner table with your family and friends.”
